I was travelling solo in Menorca and this adults only hotel seemed perfect. Great location as it's easy to get the local bus or order a taxi.

Staff are very friendly, the room was tidy and clean with all necessary amenities (as seen in the pictures I am attaching). I had a nice garden view and was able to also book a visit to the nearby village of Binibeca which I really recommend!

There are many restaurant choices nearby if you don't wish to dine within the hotel itself; you can go to nearby hotels or the couple of local restaurants in the main square.

I know there's entertainment each evening but I cannot comment as I went out most of the times.

The restaurant across the street and its 2 pool is highly recommended as it offers beautiful views and tranquility while you're sunbathing - no screaming or crying..!

This review is mainly in response to the brilliant constructive review posted by Ian 0463, and is a plea to the Management of the S'Algar Hotel to read it and act on it.

We have been holidaying at the Hotel S'Algar for 35 years. I know there are many returning guests, I also know a few who have, after all these years now ceased going there.

Yes! We have seen changes over the years, very subtle changes but basic standards maintained. Over the past 30 years it has been a relaxing hotel with low key music in the evening on the bar terrace where we got waiter service whilst we listened, talked and danced. The changes in our opinion not for the better are as follows and for a 4 star hotel should be considered.

1. When we were there in June the entertainment was in the lower lounge which in our opinion dis-jointed it from the hotel bar staff not being able to have the banter with the bar staff (which they love). The lower lounge used to be the 'quiet room' where guests went after dinner if they didn't want music or entertainment.
2. There was a day when there was a young bell boy who would take your luggage to your room.
3. There was a toilet in the restaurant, at the far end where you enter through the double doors.
4. The menu was posted outside the restaurant each day.
5. Shorts were not allowed in the restaurant in the evening.
6. There was always an information folder in the rooms about the hotel and the local services.
7. The pool snack bar - orders were taken by the Head Waiter and the other staff served and tidied efficiently and smoothly.

On the positive side the biggest asset of this Hotel is the staff and the relaxed atmosphere which ensues. It's a 4 Star hotel and doesn't have to be stuffy but needs to return to the low key relaxed friendly atmosphere it always used to be. There is a saying - 'if it ain't broken don't fix it'. This Hotel was far from broke!

Hotel was better than expected from reviews read before we left, staff were lovely and bedroom was comfortable minor problem was shortage of hangers for our clothes but that happens in lots of hotels. The food was also a lot better than we expected and the dining room staff were very helpful. The weather was not great cloudy most days and we had a couple of really stormy spells. This is a bit of a problem as all meals snacks and drinks after breakfast until 6 pm were only available across the road in the pool area usually however on the worst days the hotel did open the restaurant and bar through the day. The pool area is pleasant , the adult only pool is rather cool but as we were there in September there were not many children about so the main pool was never overcrowded . The bar/snackbar had good food and drinks and the buffet restaurant had a good selection of hot and cold food. We did not look around the resort as it is hilly and we are not as mobile as we were but others said it was pleasant but quite small and very quiet. There were a lot of guests who were frequent visitors to this hotel and a number were a bit apprehensive about the plans to allow children into the hotel next year as it has been adult only for years and they prefer hotels which have a quieter atmosphere. It will benefit the hotel if the new owners update it as it could do with some renovation however thus year we have enjoyed the relaxing holiday we had there.

Having not visited S'Algar before when in Menorca we decided to 'call by' one nice sunny afternoon in September 2018. It is a small place and when we parked up just along from this hotel we noticed that it dominated the front of the bay and quayside. We walked back and sat down to have a drink in a veranda place just off the pavement into the entrance to the hotel. The chairs were hard plastic and not very comfortable at all. Not wanting to stay too long sitting on these chairs we just ordered drinks from the bar. A woman stood behind the bar with a face like thunder and just said 'what is your room number?' We explained to her that we had just called in for a drink and to look around S'Algar. She was really abrupt and just said '50 euros if you stay' in other words if we wanted to stay half an hour for a drink we had to pay 50 euros to sit on those hard plastic chairs and just have one drink!!! By then It was already afternoon and presumably the money was to use the hotels facilities from morning through the day if you were a visitor and not a resident there. This was the nearest place to have a drink or meal along the bay and seemed to be the only place. We just walked away remarking that no wonder there wasn't many people around apart from residents in the hotel. With this rather rude and abrupt lady serving, it's a wonder anybody wants to stay here! I have made a note, NOT to visit this place or S'Algar again.

The Hotel was superb. Excellant food and good service. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were very helpful. The resort of S'algar was disappointing as their wasn't a lot amenities. The bar Reign Isabel was outstanding, excellant meal and good price.
